Day 23: Listening to My Body 🙅♂️
No run this morning. The rain is heavy.. But perhaps not my biggest issue. My biggest concern right now is my calf muscles. What started as soreness has shifted into pain, and I’ve decided to give my body another 12 hours of recovery. Hopefully, I’ll manage a short run this evening if my legs feel better and the weather clears up.
The thought of injury is unsettling, especially being so close to finishing this 30-day challenge. Not completing it now would feel like a blow to my confidence. I’ve been in situations before where injuries disrupted my marathon training, and I stubbornly pushed through the race anyway. Those races weren’t joyful—they were a grind. At the same time, I’ve also withdrawn from races before due to injury or illness, so it’s not always about pushing at all costs.
It’s a fine balance. Challenges and races bring out my determination—I’ve never pulled out mid-challenge or mid-race. But I have to ask myself: is completing this streak worth risking a more severe injury? If it means starting the new year with lingering issues, maybe not.
Sometimes, it’s important to focus on progress, not just results. Being smart about your decisions now can set you up better for the long term.
This post is short today. Hopefully, I’ll tick off a couple of miles this evening, mostly for the psychological boost. Then I can head into the final seven days without missing a single run.
Enjoy! ✌️
