Day 15: Not This Morning đź‘ź
Well, it finally happened… Day 15 marked the first morning I didn’t immediately reach for my running shoes when the alarm went off. So, does that mean all is lost? Not really. Today, I’m heading to another island where I’ll have access to a treadmill, so skipping my usual run here was actually intentional. While there’s no rule saying I must run on this particular island every morning, it’s simply become my routine. Switching up the setting feels refreshing and fitting for the halfway mark of the month. Knowing that when I wake up tomorrow, I’ll have only two more weeks left here is a nice milestone.
I can’t help but think of a quote from James Clear: “Missing a habit once is an accident; missing it twice is the start of a new habit.” When we set goals, we also need to build a solid foundation of good habits to support those goals. But no one’s perfect, and skipping a single workout doesn’t mean anything in the grand scheme. What truly matters is how quickly we get back on track. I don’t believe anyone can be 100% focused and “in the zone” every day of the year. The real difference between top endurance athletes—or high performers in general—is how fast they can recover their momentum and get back on course.
Tomorrow, I’ll return to my regular morning routine with a base run, and then plan a tempo run on the last day of the week to hit two high-intensity sessions.
